1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
supports families in building early literacy habits at home so children start school ready to learn.
DEEP provides families and caregivers of pre-school age children with concrete strategies, resources and education to be their child’s best first teacher before starting kindergarten.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten improves early literacy skills among pre-school age children by developing habits and understanding among the adults in their homes to support early reading and language skills before starting kindergarten.
Each year, DEEP challenges and supports over 350 families with children ages 0-5 to participate in the San Diego Public Library’s 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program. Over 100 families have met their 1000 book goal!
